Number of Croats in Netherlands and their immigration

There are about 10 000 Croats and their descendants in Netherlands. Large number immigrated during and after Croatian War of Independence, especially from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Croats are highly appreciated Netherlands citizens; ones who immigrated in early years came mostly due to economy reasons. Large number of Croats inhabit at industrial cities like Rotterdam Amsterdam etc.  Most Croats from Bosnia and Herzegovina live in Arnhem.

Status of Croats in Netherlands
There are no special Laws on rights and obligation of immigrants. All foreign citizens in Netherlands enjoy same treatment as citizens of Netherlands.

There are certain regulations of immigration affaires, citizenships, as well as temporary and permanent residence and asylum. Norwegian citizenship may be granted after five years of residence. Spouses of Netherlands citizens may apply for citizenship after three years of marriage. There is no possibility of dual citizenship. 
It is important to know that Croatia and Netherlands have mutual agreement of Social security.

Croatian associations and Catholic missions

Croatian associations in Netherlands are active in maintaining and cherishing Croatian cultural heritage, but some of them have a political aspect.  Well known associations are: Rijnmond Rotterdam, Croatian Home Cardinal Stepinac in Amsterdam, Netherlands- Croatian Foundation from Voorst.
Catholic Mission is placed in Rotterdam.

Croatian classes and Lectorate for Croatian language

Croatian classes are held in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Arnhem according to program of Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport. 
Croatian language and Literature are taught at University of Amsterdam.  At the University of Groningen, Croatian language and Literature may be held as optional subject. Among these classes, there are official courses of Croatian language at Public University in Rotterdam. 

Publishing and Media

Netherlands- Croatian Foundation periodically publishes newspapers.
